Becoming the Woman You Want to Be Is Not What You Think

Becoming the woman you want to be is not an additive project. The version you sense in there is the original — and the work is the slow letting-go of the protective layers a younger version of you assembled to survive. Transformation is a removal, not an acquisition. You can probably feel her — the version of you who is on the other side of the work you've been doing. The one who chooses well, sleeps soundly, stops bracing, laughs more easily, takes up the room she is in. You can almost see her. And the gap between her and the you who is reading this, on a Wednesday, in your usual life, is what keeps you up at night. You don't become her. You stop being not her. The framing most of us inherit is that becoming the woman we want to be is an additive project. We have to acquire something — habits, mindset, discipline, courage — that we currently lack. We have
